Dr. Tonya Boening D.V.M.
Born and raised in Cheboygan she is a proud resident of Northern Michigan. She attended Central Michigan University for her undergraduate studies and then went on to graduate from Michigan State’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2014. Her first position after vet school was at a busy mixed animal practice. It was there she first got her feet wet in veterinary medicine and was able to expand on the education she received with real world practicality.
Her professional interests included internal medicine and quality end of life care. It is her primary desire to make the final journey for your pet as peaceful and dignified as possible. Her work ethic and strong passion for the care of animals is admired and revered both by all of us here at the clinic and the clients she has worked with.
She spends her time outside of the clinic with her three Labradors; Tank, Teegan, and Kip. She has a large brood of chickens she cares for including one very special chicken named Florence that she nursed back to health after she was attacked by a predator. Recently she has impressed many of us in the clinic with videos of Florence jumping to rest on her arm on command. When we tell you that she has a special way with animals, this is exactly what we mean. From kayaking with friends and family to hiking with her three labs she enjoys almost all of the outdoor activities Northern Michigan has to offer. She has a deep love for things old and antique including John Deere tractors and is an annual participant in the Mackinac Bridge Antique Tractor Crossing and Show.
We are honored and grateful to have a DVM like Dr. Tonya on our staff. We assure you that if and when you and your furry family members meet her you will be just as impressed as we are. She is a proud member of the Maple River Veterinary Associates family and looks forward to continuing to meet and care for the patients we call ours.
